sonali issue 2She was asked to bring out a tray full of tea cups for the family and the man waiting to see her.
Afraid and at the same time excited, she smiled at the thought of marriage and possible motherhood.
Clad in her best saree and smelling of her favorite perfume, feeling utterly beautiful and special, all dressed up for one man.
With a shy smile she walked toward her to-be-groom, thinking that he might be her soul mate.
She served the tea cups with a smile mixed with shyness
And then bent to place the tray on the table.
Her mother regrets that moment to date.
They saw the scar on her back- a burn that she got while lighting the fire to keep her home warm.
They yelled and argued asking the parents how they could give them “damaged goods”- a woman with a scarred back.
Damaged goods- that became her new nickname and unfortunately she has accepted it for life.
